More about ABC . . .

President Bush has pledged to the American people that the resources entrusted to the federal government during his administration will be well managed. Each bureau has specific mission goals, but each of those goals supports the larger Interior mission of managing our country’s natural resources. We can achieve these goals by evaluating our performance and using this information in our budget decisions to deliver the best value for our products and services. The Department will begin collecting cost and performance information on all of its programs beginning in fiscal year 2004. One tool we have chosen to help us achieve this goal is Activity Based Costing (ABC). ABC has been proven to be effective in determining the cost of activities that contribute to achieving the DOI mission and will enable us to make intelligent choices on the best way to use our budget dollars.
